Boeing officials revealed their intentions to engage in a number of businesses based in Quebec, including an anchor investment of $110 million for an Aerospace Development Center located in the recently established Espace Aéro Innovation Zone. As part of its Industrial and Technological Benefits pledge to Canada, Boeing chose to use the P-8A Poseidon to carry out its long-term multi-mission aircraft duty. It involves the investments made by Boeing.
The two projected technological advancements included in Boeing’s Québec investments are Wisk’s engineering center in Montreal, which is dedicated to the creation of an autonomous, electric, four-passenger eVTOL air taxi. Furthermore, the company intends to work with Héroux-Devtek in Espace Aéro on the latest landing gear research.
Acknowledging that Espace Aéro aims to promote a collaborative culture while advancing sustainable aerospace in Canada, Boeing is evaluating further projects to be located in a zone that is in line with the technological development priorities of autonomy and decarbonization.
In November 2023, the Canadian government declared that it would purchase the P-8A Poseidon aircraft as part of the Canadian Multi-Mission Aircraft Initiative. By creating jobs and fostering economic growth throughout the nation, Boeing’s investments in Québec expand on the more than $2 billion in P-8 contracts the company has already signed with Canadian businesses. An independent analysis conducted by Doyletech Corporation, based in Ottawa, estimates that the acquisition will help Canada economically by $358 million a year and create close to 3,000 jobs.
